About

Contorsions presents pictorial works on canvas and textiles, integrating an expanded installational aspect of painting. The exhibition explores the manipulation and distortion of images, embracing digital technology, painting, and materiality. The work draws on images that are transformed through optical and digital methods, extending a consideration of their alteration. The paintings are the result of complex visual transformations whose subject matter is the distortion process itself. At the same time, Karine Fréchette experiments with new textiles, playing with tensions and folds. The whole forms an immersive installation, engaging the body and space, and marks a return to a more direct and physical art practice.
